LEAD SINNERS TO GOSPEL WORKERS

Angels lead sinners to gospel workers. In Acts ten, an angel appeared to Cornelius and told him to send to Joppa for Peter. God worked through the angel that appeared to Cornelius, and through the vision that appeared to Peter, to bring the preacher to the sinner. The result was that Cornelius and his household heard the word of God.

An angel sent Philip to the Gaza road where he would meet the Ethiopian eunuch. At the Spirit’s direction, Philip taught the man and baptized him (Acts 8:26-38). It is noteworthy that even though an angel was used in getting the gospel worker together with the alien sinner, the angel was not allowed to preach the gospel. This corresponds with Paul’s statement in 2 Corinthians 4:7 that the gospel has been entrusted to earthen vessels. Here is where some would raise an objection. In Galatians 1:8 we read, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!” This might seem to indicate that angels were preaching a gospel which Paul considered a false gospel. It seems to me, however, that Paul is using hyperbole to establish the fact that his gospel was true and from God. To emphasize that, he exaggerates by saying even if an angel from heaven were to preach the gospel, if it were different than the one Paul was preaching, then that angel would be anathema. This Scripture should not, however, be used to prove that angels from heaven preach the gospel.
